Declaring that “we don’t have a moment to spare,” President Obama on Wednesday pushed hard for passage of his economic stimulus plan, promising that it would be not just enormous in scope but run with a transparency and accountability not always associated with huge Washington projects.

Obama is heading to the Pentagon later Wednesday to hear from the four U.S. military service chiefs, one more step toward fulfilling his promise of withdrawing all combat troops from Iraq. The president is expected to get a sketch of what would be required to fulfill the president’s timetable for a 16-month withdrawal.
