Update: As there are now quite a few places that are linking to this outdated post, I would like to direct you to also read this post with some of his newer efforts.

Due to the recent pause here on WIOD, I am sure our readers would really like to know what they’ve missed!
Well, this President seems to be working in some kind of alternate timespace and it’s hardly possible to list every thing he’s been up to until now, but here’s a (incomplete) list of things that the administration has changed so far:
- Reversed restrictions on stem cell research
- Appointed an assistant to the president for science and technology policy
- Created a foreclosure prevention fund for homeowners
- Expanded loan programs for small businesses
- Extended and indexed the 2007 Alternative Minimum Tax patch
- Expanded eligibility for State Children’s Health Insurance Fund (SCHIP)
- Expanded funding to train primary care providers and public health practitioners
- Directed military leaders to end war in Iraq
- Sent two additional brigades to Afghanistan
- As promised gave a speech at a major Islamic forum in the first 100 days of his administration
- Granted Americans unrestricted rights to visit family and send money to Cuba
- Restored funding for the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (Byrne/JAG) program
- Released presidential records
- Now requires new hires to sign a form affirming their hiring was not due to political affiliation or contributions
- Pushed for enactment of Matthew Shepard Act, which expands hate crime law to include sexual orientation and other factors
- Created a White House Office on Urban Policy
- Supported increased funding for the NEA
- Funded a major expansion of AmeriCorps
- Worked to overturn Ledbetter vs. Goodyear
- Banned lobbyist gifts to executive employees
- Pledged to weatherize 1 million homes per year
- Invested in all types of alternative energy
- Enacted tax credit for consumers for plug-in hybrid cars
- Provided grants to encourage energy-efficient building codes
- As promised appointed at least one Republican to the cabinet
- Extended unemployment insurance benefits and temporarily suspended taxes on these benefits.
Ofcourse, we are still awaiting many of his biggest campaign promises and many of the major issues are still pretty shady on what he’s really going to do with. And to be fair, this list is some of the neat things Obama has done and not the bad – but I would be hard pressed to really find much concrete for such a list as the things that possibly can end up on that side are still in the works (for example the iraq war, bailout, stimulus, gitmo and ofcourse the haunting marijuana legalisation issue).
So far, pretty neat track record.

Thanks for the list. Can you update it please?
Jaeroe – Sadly we don’t have the time to maintain this blog regularly right now.
Obama has done nothing. He is an illuminati like the whole worlds government. They try to control us. lets not let them. Jeremiah benton told me
Can we get a price tag on all these things he’s done?
He appointed a general to run ops in Afghanistan, then refused to heed his advice. He has succeeded in Nationalizing the auto industry, (Can you name one other that did the same thing)? He then handed controlling interest to the UAW, the very culprits that put the industry in the bankruptcy in the first place. He has gone around the world, on his “America is sorry for all it’s faults” tour. We are the same country that drove Germany from France, Great Britain, and the likes. He is going to allow terrorists to be given the same constitutional rights as Americans, and try them in a Federal court. He has spent more time in front of TV, and traveled more than any other president before him. While he and his wife were hawking the Olympics for their hometown, they felt it necessary to fly in separate planes. (Funny how rampant spending, with no oversight, means nothing to some). He has spent more than any other president, in the same time frame. Have you people stopped and thought for one second how all this money will be re-payed? A prize will go to the first “Einstein” that blames all this on the previous administration!
Peace out……
Truth is…Obama has been left with all of the mess made over the past 8 eight years, but no one wants to adress this. I dont know the man for anything so I wont say he perfect, but from what I do know he’s trying to fix this country. Survey says he wont be able to do it, even if he serves another term. So the next president elected will get the same exact treatment he gets. P.S The real power is in the people of this country not in government, forget about Republican Democratic nonsense we are america(Government worries about Government!), and need to ask what we can do for are country. I bet most of you claim to be so American but are still buying foreign merchandise (buy American!) Just remember we’re in the same hole we were in a year ago.
i cant read all this
Mary,
“Can we get a price tag on all these things he’s done?”
Did you ever ONCE ask what the price tag was for Bush’s decisions? Have you EVER asked what price we would be stuck with for him lying to us about Iraq? Or the price of his reversal of all the environmental and animal protection laws?
What about the the price tag for Bush refusing to do ANYTHING to prevent the current recession? What did he do to prevent a full blown depression? He authorized nearly a trillion dollars to bail out the banks with no strings attached. And OBAMA is getting blamed for that.
The money will come from like it has the last 50 years; we just keep raising prices and increasing our debt and ask for more wages. How do we blame one President for what we do everyday and that is live on Debt. Who do I blame for the fact that everything cost three times as much, compared to when my Parents raised a Family? We can’t even stay up with Technology because it cost to much now (building a 4G infrastructure), but we will by going more in Debt.
@MLASS: The fact that everything costs more than in your parents time is called “Inflation” and has nothing to do with presidents or politics, but simple market economics.
LOL @ NIKLAS. In your “correction” of MLASS was only partially correct but incorrect in majority. Truthfully inflation and our economic system as a whole HAS EVERYTHING to do with our government since A.) the entire system of American Capitalism was enacted by our Government or the precursors to our governing bodies as we know them, B.) Have you ever heard of the Federal Resevre and to what purpose do you think it is used? The FED controls the valuation of the dollar within the confines of our nation and thus controls how much product its “value” can purchase, essentially if the dollar was worth more, more could be purchased with such.
With all that being said regardless of what side you are upon this topic of debate you all have the same folly, you fail to see the fact that much like the diagram of a figure eight, the yin and yang symbol or the circumference of a circle… All of these are connected and when dealing with the personal preferences of many there is no way to ever be right unless you focus upon what is RIGHTEOUS. Example: Is their any difference between Timothy McVeigh and those that attacked the WTC, beside their country of origin? And if that’s is so important in considering someone an enemy combatant where terrorism is involved (Remember; To be an enemy combatant one must represent one party on either side of an “declared” war – at this time there were none).
Most of you probably dont even know that the whole Conservative Theory with regards to politics is literally the theory of hording information, education, wealth and resources for the benefit of a few placed within a certain position by the hieracharical views held in a particular social climate.
Here’s historical fact. The Republicans has been in office, held jurisdictional power and have been the dominating party of our National Government at a minimum of two times more than any other Democratic party created within our nation. In other words the VAST MAJORITY of our leaders no matter how great in moment or how negative in moment where Republicans and yet they continue to say Democrats are the cause for all the ills of our nation. When the truth is they are the cause for their own demise and our collective destruction because of one flaw in their principle tenet. To conserve means to restrict for the purpose of benefit but when working with unknown variables any restriction can cause a significant decrease in benefit simply because one can not account for benefit that he/she is not aware of prior. So in only going after those things of “proven” methodology the GOP (Grand Old Party) purposely places themselves upon the back burner for fear of losing valuable resources unaware that the nature of variables is that they not only flucuate in conception but also in their native construction.
So if you want to take Obama to task, be fair and take to task the whole system and which such those that have placed themselves in control for the majority since it’s creation.
Would American citizens who whale about their Country’s National debt trade their petrol-inefficient pickup trucks for a more civilized domestic vehicle? It could cut commuting costs by 75%, but would that profit be lost in buying from a foreign productionline?
Could an american live without the use of creditcards, accepting the fact they can’t spend money they haven’t “received” yet e.g. debetcards-only? Could an American switch to a metric system like all europe switched to the Euro? Could Americans accept Brittish petrol prices at the pump?
Grateful for America’s sacrifice in WW2 liberating us from zee nazi’s. A word of common sense to those who critize their own president: Ask for as much change as you yourself are willing to change in the way you live your life.
Give the Man the four years you collectively gave him to prove his worth. Like him, Change Your America! Do what you can and give it your best. Try not to doubt your president online.
Modern communication is America’s most leathal enemy today.
President Obama has done nothing but circle talk and work as much as possible to catapult us to socialism. He spends OUR money like it belongs to him in order to bail out lowlife wallstreet bankers and morons who jumped on home loans they knew they couldn’t afford in the first place. Redistribution of wealth is a load of crap and it’s all you heard during campaigning. I’m sorry but i don’t think lazy crackheads who won’t get out and work deserve part of my money. Nor do i feel that i deserve a portion of someone’s money who has gotten out and built a fruitful business that earns them a million dollars a year. Everyone has the same opportunity. no job creation, no bailout for the actual people who deserve it, all beating around the bush and jibber jabber. he did inherit alot of mess from the past 8 years. But if i’m in a car with someone and i think they are about to wreck, i don’t grab the wheel and jerk it into the ditch!
So Lloyd, if this is left over garbage from the last 8 years, why has this man’s policies cost the American Tax Payers more than all the presidents since Bush Sr.? Not even the Iraq War cost as much to finance as this man’s first year…liberals get their wish and STILL have Bush Derangement Syndrome. Never satisfied until we are all socialists. We’ll see in 2010!
My opinion on this subject is this: I think if you blame one person, you must be ignorant. I blame all the people of the USA! People think that the government chooses itself and think that their vote does not count, or the very young choose a president only for his image that the media shows. Every one that voted for Obama, have now turned their backs on him. So, you see, it is the ignorance of the people that put this economy on the brink of destruction.
I believe so many people were expecting such a drastic change out of Barack Obama during his first year when in actuality, a president’s first year is dedicated to finishing up what the prior president left them. This misjudgment has caused tons of people to get mad at him when he hasn’t really had the chance to stretch his legs and exercise what he believes to be best for our country. Many people complain about how our country’s debt has increased since he’s been in office when really, they’re the ones who put their stimulus checks into savings instead of spending them to help boost the economy. I don’t think anybody has the right to complain about a problem unless they are doing something to fix it. He’s the president, not superman… and our government is made up of checks and balances so he does not have supreme power to change things as he sees fit. People should stop putting the blame on him until they learn about what the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branch are doing to help back him up. If you don’t have knowledge about what you’re talking about, then don’t open your mouth… it’s called ignorance, and the world has enough of it.
The marijuana issue will never be tackled the government is too concerned on how it will look and not the 150 billion a year legalizing and regulating it will make. Marijuana makes over 8 billion dollars a year in California alone just being medical if you regulated it like cigarettes in every state lets take 1/2 the size of Cali and times that by 49 so 4 billion times 49 that is 196 billion a year and that is just saying medical not the possible 20-30+ billion California could make alone if it was regulated but alas the government is too concerned that the people of the country will look at them in shame(though they wont) and the other thing stopping them is the fear that marijuana will bring a downfall to the drug Co. (though most every drug if more dangerous and addicting then marijuana) because marijuana cures things such as chronic and regular pain eating disorders low blood pressure headaches depression(yes marijuana is a depressant but a different kind it depresses(in other words relaxes not makes sadder i.e you can depress a balloon by taking the air out but it doesn’t make the balloon sad it just makes it flat.) the body not the brain.)it in tests has actually been proven to reduce the size of inoperable tumors help with glaucoma and many many more. There are thousands upon thousands of different drugs that do the same with side effects such as pain nausea vomiting, fatigue, dry mouth, kidney and liver problems, high addiction rate, death, diarrhea, infection, high blood pressure low blood pressure diabetes swollen or shrunk testicles and many many more yet the only side effects of pot to date are irritated throat from smoking (which goes away in a few hours to days depending on quantity smoked) dry mouth and like most pain killers temporary depressed motor skills and thought process.
this didnt really help am lloking for the bad things and things he has promised to do. if you could help send me info.
Really? Deanna P Zimmerman, Obama has done nothing but spend more money. So far the stimulus hasn’t worked, and throwing more money at something that is broken won’t make it work.
hey, my opinion about Obamas presidentcy is the dude grew up in chicago, he was growin up and his white momma was rasin him to be somethin, after college he knew he wanted to work with the people and try to make our economy something great. his campaigne caught my eye when he started talking about “lowering taxes” and ” making “us” count, and putting this generation first”. as promised, he never did any of these things. and as a matter of fact, i stall havent seen any improvement. the only thing ive seen is gas prices go up, and common goods sky rocket, and other nesseties way over price. do you think he will be re-elected? lets wait and see.
Patsy: It’s a common error to think he hasn’t lowered taxes. I blame the lack of proper media coverage for this.

@DTTW
You do realize that marijuana is not good for you, despite contrary belief, right? It kills brain cells and leads to memory loss several years after you take large amounts of it. The effect is slow to happen, but trust me, it happens. Sure enough, the government could just legalize marijuana, and then we will be profiting from people’s stupidity and suffering. Yay?
@Deanna P Zimmerman
Your response is the one i hear from most liberals. Instead of answering the question of how much Obama is spending, they just answer with another question directed at Bush. Heres the deal: Bush isn’t our president anymore, Obama is. As of now, I don’t give two shits what Bush did, but what Obama is doing right now. If Bush made mistakes, then I would hope Obama is doing something to fix them. If not, I would hope Obama is doing something to improve our economy and not ruin it. People just want to know what Obama is doing, not what Bush did. If Bush spent 80 trillion dollars (exaggerated), fine, he was the worst president ever, but then my concern is what is Obama doing to fix that problem? Stop bashing on things you can’t fix and focus on what we can do right now in our current situation.
Deanna Zimmerman
You clearly do not know what you are talking about so I would appreciate it if you left Mary alone. She’s right. Clearly you support Obama and his ways but don’t hate on people for their opinions. You have yours, and we have ours.
why is no one telling anything about how many useless jobs hes created, this health care bill…how much will this cost. the fact that he is pure socialist communist. the fact that nothing in terms of the fincial situation in this country is moving forward. name one are of government that is efficient and makes money. Making more government positions with more money and more people wont solve a thing, big government is bad for its people. Letting the people govern themselves works, and has worked up until big government started working its way in in the 1900′s. And free health care and other things like that. If you dont believe you should work for things, then you are not american. Americans are hard workers, at least the ones i know, not people that want all the free government handouts. People that want this passed act like a bunch of homeless people…”give us more, more, more. we need everything taken care of cause we cant do it ourselves, we like to go spend our money from our jobs that require no education and blow it on consumer goods, please give us what we want”
@Deanna P Zimmerman
Bush spent alot of money? Then how 180 days after obama was elcted did the national debt go from 15.6 trillion to 18.3 trillion. in 6 freakin months the guy spent more money on more bulls@*t and for what, so he can at least get the statistic of 22.6 trillion dollars spent by the end of 8 years…if it so happens he is re elected
i think he is trying and if he had a bad attitude like some people then we would be in bad shape those who sit around complaining doing nothing for no one are the real problem
Who taught you all of this stuff anyway? The media? They are owned by the government you know…hmmmmm can you believe anything anyone on here has written? Probably not.
Dear “Rachael”,
I’m addressing your comment not because I agree with Deanna Zimmerman or you but because your post makes me chuckle. You made a very passive aggressive statement by saying to Deanna that “Clearly you support Obama and his ways but don’t hate on people for their opinions.” I adore this comment because it shows that you are projecting your hate at Zimmerman. Deanna never once said that she hated Mary. She also didn’t convey any hate in her message. She was just making a strong statement. The fact that you mentioned she hated on people for their opinions means that you do the same thing. Nice one, hypocrite. Way to be smart ass!
Thanks for the laugh!
Have we all become so blind to the truth that we have dismissed all of the negative slander by both republican and liberal alike. Can you with any level of inteligence say that either side does what they say after they have been elected by people who are more interested in empty words and promises than past preformance or expearance. If u hold yourself to any level of excellance look to facts and not some piece of the truth that someonelse is trying to lead u with. If u choose not to do so just look at yourself and see the sheep you are.
I think this is Obama
Obama yo mamma Obamab oh shit
you look to the left you look to the right but yet you look ahead and theres a bumper sticker that says Obamma ohshit!…..to be contd
SO to me what has he really done to help us nothing all his does is pocket all that money
@zach, i’m sorry last time i checked, which was 1 minute ago the national debt was at 12.9 trillion. Yes that is very high, but everyone here thinks that obama controls everything. where were you all in high school political science. what was that lesson about checks and balances? oh thats right, that keeps the president from having too much power. Healthcare is a big issue seeing as how we are supposed to be the best country and our healthcare is the most expensive and ranked 31st in the world. Also congress controls taxes, the president has power to veto what they try and put through. The truth is that the president alone does not have enough power to completly change our country, something you should have learned in high school. Don’t worry, republicans are blocking everything obama is trying to do.
Hey Ariel Perez, why are you posting blogs when you should be in the kitchen practicing your sandwich making skills? I mean your cleary a republican’t, so do your rep. duty as a woman and contribute nothing but babies and a hot plate of food to this world. Get owned.
