Just hours after the bans over torture and closure of Guantanamo, Obama urged Israel on Thursday to open its borders with Gaza. This to make sure aid can reach innocent palestinians. He adds that they need food, clean water, medical aid and have been living in abject poverty for far too long.
He also proclaimed that the US would “actively and aggressively seek a lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians”, and named long-time diplomat George Mitchell as special envoy for the Middle East.
And in a broad swipe at the Bush administration’s lawyers, Obama nullified every legal order and opinion on interrogations issued by any lawyer in the executive branch after Sept. 11, 2001.
